Jacarta

Jacarta® is a leading supplier of environmental monitoring and power monitoring equipment for the IT, retail, domestic and financial sectors. Jacarta product philosophy is to provide highly reliable solutions that are not only straightforward to install and use, but also extremely cost-effective, so that the return on investment for our end-user customers can be as rapid as possible.

Monitoring:

Power
Air-conditioning
Temperature
Humidity
Water leak detection
Smoke detection

Measuring and monitoring these, amongst other parameters in the datacentre is crucial to understanding the IT infrastructure impact on the corporate carbon footprint for the environment and operational costs.

Without monitoring and trending these key factors, the organisation cannot measure or audit how the datacentre is performing against costs.  These costs are certain to escalate as power and cooling expenses continue to rise in the future.

Jacarta interceptor and interceptor Pro models bring all the benefits of a single device which monitors your datacentre 24x7, alerts on deviation from user set thresholds via email, SMS and voicemail, via Alert Centre and interfaces with most SNMP enabled NMS

Ixian Solutions is a Jacarta® Certified Platinum Partner and is able to supply, install and support all Jacarta products.

Mutiny

What is Mutiny?

Mutiny offers a choice of VMware or an appliance that uses industry standard SNMP to gather information from the IT infrastructure OSI stack and display the results in a multi-user web front-end that allows administrators and managers alike to quickly assess the health of their estate.

The Mutiny Network Services Monitor is a network-monitoring and alerting appliance that combines proactive relevant functionality with Mutiny's intuitive interface design.

Features include:

  • Interactive web based graphical interface with pop-up windows and rich graphical displays.
  • Flexible SMS and Email alert options to provide reliable notification of network related problems.
  • Comprehensive polling options to minimise the impact on network traffic.
  • Data collection and graphing facilities to analyse network trends.
  • Rapid methods of discovering networked devices to ensure quick installation and simple configuration.

What can Mutiny monitor?

  • ICMP:  A simple ping action determines whether the node is responding to network communications.
Interfaces: Monitors utilisation, errors and connectivity on switch and router ports.
  • SNMP:  A poll action determines whether SNMP based data can be retrieved from the node.
  • Cisco QoS: Manual and “Auto QoS” graphing and alerting
  • CPU Load:  A measure of how efficiently the node’s processing unit is performing its operations.
  • Memory Usage:  The amount of a node’s total memory capacity in use.
  • Disk Usage:  The amount of a node’s hard disk capacity in use.
  • Processes:  Indicates the state of the processes running on the node.
  • IP Services:  TCP layer tests for application availability.
  • Remote Agents:  Expandability and Customisation including, Microsoft IIS, SQL Server, UPS’s, Hardware RAID alerts, environmental monitoring etc.
  • Interfaces/Ports:  Status, alerting and Graphing of utilisation
  • Environmental:  CPU, Temperature, Fans and Redundant PSU Status.

Voltage Power Optimisation

Despite changes to the UK statutory supply level there has not been any reduction to our LV supply network levels and the average incoming voltage still stands at 242V. It is not unusual to see voltages in excess of 250V and some sites have recorded voltages in excess of 260V.

Power optimisation reduces the input supply at the point where the supply enters the building, so that output voltage is accordingly reduced and therefore costs and carbon emission. This is an established technology and its use is widespread. However, Ixian Solutions are able to offer clients the next generation of regulated voltage, maintaining a constant voltage level and enhancing those savings further.

Plainly, the vast majority of electrical equipment does not need this current level. Voltage Power Optimisation reduces this incoming Grid supply to a more realistic level,. This can be achieved in two ways:

1st generation - Fixed ratio step down transformer

Fitting a fixed ratio step down transformer
(Fig.2) with predetermined tap settings or adjusting the tap setting on their own incoming transformer, if it is not shared.
However, the tap settings of the latter are quite course generally 2.5%. This method has been general practice within industry for many years (indeed the technology is over 70 years old) but with the low cost of electricity pre 2000, was not considered high priority.

The benefits are:

  • an immediate reduction in consumption, increased equipment life
  • low purchase and installation costs
  • 12 to 18 months return on investment.
  • manufactured in the UK

The disadvantages are also obvious:

  •  there is no control, whatever appears on input a fixed percentage drop will occur on the output including:
  • voltage fluctuations and sags.

2nd/3rd generation - Voltage Regulator

Another method of achieving savings is a voltage regulator. This is an active device, again fitted at your incoming supply but now with the ability to regulate the output voltages to your site. The benefits of this method over the previous are obvious. The output voltages are now controlled to a set level that can be adjusted online at site.

The benefits

  • each phase has independent adaptive control allowing the output voltages to be balanced, improving motor efficiency.
  • additional saving added to fixed ratio saving by eliminating fluctuating voltages
  •  it is possible to continually reduce the
output voltages to achieve the optimum setting for maximum
    savings while online and load.
  • constant voltage prolongs equipment life
  • manufactured in the UK

We believe that these 3rd generation regulators offer our clients significant advantages, over fixed ratio step down transformers in terms of potential savings on energy and carbon reduction, together with extended equipment life.

Time Tools NTP servers

TimeTools new SR and SC series of rack-mountable and compact time servers are now being shipped. Offering a complete range of Linux based true stratum 1 time references that provide a real breakthrough in price and performance.

The units can be provided with a range of reference clock options for true flexibility. High stability TCXO oscillator options can also be provided to increase holdover in the event of the loss of the primary reference clock.

Our confidence in the reliability of the new devices is reflected in the provision of an industry leading 5 year warranty.

UPDATE !!! The SR/SC series is now provided with a cutting-edge high-sensitivity GPS receiver that can often operate with an indoor located GPS antenna. Additionally, the new receivers can operate from a single satellite-in-view making operation from a window often possible. These features potentially provide a great saving on installation costs when compared to traditional roof-mounted GPS antennas. Of course, our GPS antennas are completely weather-proof and can still be roof-mounted, if required.

A new SR9850 will be available soon with increased processing power and accuracy. Able to synchronise to within 1usec UTC and serve in excess of 128,000 clients.
